The 2024 Yale US-China Distinguished Colloquium (YUCDC) was held at the Yale Science Building at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, co-organized by AADE alongside the Association of Chinese Students and Scholars at Yale (ACSSY). The colloquium convened under the theme "Forge a Shared Future," bringing together over forty scholars, diplomats, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders from the United States and China to explore the past, present, and future of one of the world's most consequential bilateral relationships. One of the most influential China-focused summits organized by Chinese students in North America, the YUCDC has since its founding in 2011 served as a high-level forum for cross-Pacific dialogue on geopolitics, technology, economics, and society.

A Distinguished Gathering for a Critical Bilateral Moment

The 2024 colloquium, attended by approximately 500 participants, convened at a pivotal moment in US-China relations, following the bilateral meeting between the two heads of state at the APEC Summit in San Francisco and renewed momentum toward stabilizing dialogue across key domains. Opening remarks were delivered by Yale University Provost Scott Strobel, and Siddharth Chatterjee, United Nations Resident Coordinator in China, expressed in his address the hope that the colloquium would continue to spark conversations and strengthen initiatives that advance US-China cooperation and the achievement of common global goals. The event featured parallel sessions across ten thematic tracks spanning business and finance, venture investment, healthcare, international affairs, education, AI ethics, film and globalization, technology innovation, international investment, and sustainable development.

Youth Leadership and the Next Generation of Bridge-Builders

AADE's co-organization of the 2024 Yale US-China Distinguished Colloquium reflected a shared conviction that the future of US-China relations depends not only on high-level policy dialogue but equally on nurturing the next generation of leaders capable of navigating complexity with nuance and building lasting connections across cultures. By engaging young scholars and professionals alongside seasoned diplomats, scientists, and executives, the colloquium embodied Yale University's vision of cultivating global leaders. AADE's participation underscored its institutional commitment to youth empowerment and cross-sector cooperation as foundations for a more stable and collaborative international order.

The 2024 Yale US-China Distinguished Colloquium reaffirmed the enduring value of people-to-people exchange and academic diplomacy at a time when US-China institutional channels face significant headwinds. AADE remains committed to supporting platforms that bring young changemakers into contact with the world's most consequential policy conversations — building the human capital and mutual understanding that long-term bilateral cooperation requires.
