The Global Digital Economy Conference 2023 (GDEC 2023) — Singapore Session convened at the Capella Hotel, Sentosa Island, Singapore, bringing together government officials, industry leaders, academics, and digital economy practitioners from China, Singapore, and across the Asia-Pacific region to explore frontiers in digital economic cooperation. Themed “Collaborating and Innovating Together in the Digital Economy’s Blue Ocean,” the Singapore Session marked the first time GDEC had established a dedicated overseas sub-session with a guest country of honor, reflecting the growing significance of international collaboration in shaping the global digital economy. As the flagship annual conference jointly co-hosted by the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Commerce, the Cyberspace Administration of China, and the China Association for Science and Technology, GDEC 2023 represented a landmark platform for advancing inclusive digital development and cross-border innovation.

The Asia Academy of Digital Economics (AADE) served as an official supporter (organizing partner) for the Singapore Session, taking a central role in its planning and delivery. AADE’s leadership in organizing this overseas sub-session demonstrated the institution’s growing capacity to convene high-level international platforms dedicated to the advancement of digital governance, technological innovation, and inclusive digital development. The session convened a range of distinguished participants, including Wang Jianwei, Director at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, and Wang Lei, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economic and Information Technology, who both addressed the strategic importance of deepening China-Singapore digital cooperation and highlighted the transformative opportunities emerging across the digital economy landscape.
